Biologically Degummed and Chemically Treated Okra Bast Fibers-Reinforced Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Composites

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper focuses on preparation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-based composites reinforced with okra bast fibers at different percentages 5, 10, 20% via solution casting method. Fibers obtained from sections plants were biologically degummed and scoured Na2CO3. Selected bleached, treated maleic anhydride or grafted vinyl acetate. Mechanical, physical biodegradational properties the investigated. The tensile strength produced ranges between 33.8 55.1 MPa, elasticity modulus 1.8 to 2.6 GPa, elongation rate break varies in 2.8-10%. Chemical treatments led improved mechanical performance whereas increased fiber content reduces strength, stiffness elongation, as well water absorption. Fiber addition significantly affected biodegradation a complicated way: by decelerating mass loss but accelerating deterioration properties.

Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber Reinforced Engineered Cementitious Composites: Material Design and Performances

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber is considered as one of the most suitable polymeric fibers to be used as the reinforcement of engineered cementitious composites (ECC), though the unique microstructure characteristics of PVA fiber add challenge to the material design. In this paper, the micromechanics based design procedure for a PVA-ECC suitable for structural applications is described, and pract...

Biodegradable single-polymer composites from polyvinyl alcohol

The microstructure and thermomechanical behaviour of a novel fully biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH)-based single-polymer composite (SPC) is presented. Three kinds of PVOH stapled fibres, having different melting temperatures and tensile mechanical properties, were considered as a reinforcement, whilst plasticized PVOH granules were selected as a continuous matrix. Calorimetric tests on th...

Short Cellulose Nanofibril/polyvinyl Alcohol Nanocomposite Fibers

Short cellulose nanofibrils (SCNF) were investigated as a reinforcement for polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers. SCNF fibers were mechanically isolated from hard wood pulp after enzymatic pretreatment. Various levels of SCNF were added to PVA and gel-spun into continuous fibers. The molecular orientation of PVA was affected by a combination of wet drawing during gel spinning and post-hot-drawing at ...

Flexural Behavior of Cementitious Composites Reinforced by Synthetic Fibers

The application of fibers to reinforce cementitious materials is a well-known subject. At first, asbestos fibers are used in industrial process to produce fiber reinforced cement sheets. Thereafter, various types of synthetic fibers are produced and used as asbestos substitutes. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the effect of synthetic fibers on the flexural behavior of cementitious co...

Thermal Degradation of HDPE Short Fibers Reinforced Epoxy Composites

Thermogravimetric analysis was carried out to investigate the thermal degradation of High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) short fibers reinforced epoxy composites. Three composites with 5, 10 and 15 % by weight of HDPE short fiber composition were prepared using epoxy as matrix material. The HDPE short fiber used as reinforcing material into the resin helps in retarding the thermal degradation of ...
